Brain Field

Dameboy
Umbrella

Dameboy, Poly (still), 2022, Moving image and sound, 16:9 ratio.

Brain Field is a multi-form dreamscape that blurs the boundaries between internal and external worlds. The field takes shape as a mass sculptural work; featuring an assemblage of crafted found-objects, dance film, sound, and a live durational performance. This installation expands Dameboy’s visual universe, focussing towards a dense terrain of inner psychology – a brain cluttered and colonised by the waste of the physical world. Part installation, part performance environment, Brain Field invites audiences to move through and reflect on the porous boundaries between body, mind, and environment. Participants will also be able to contribute to the evolving installation through free, associated collaborative workshops.

Dameboy is an interdisciplinary artist working across sound, performance, dance, visual arts and event curation. Based between Gurambilbarra / Townsville and Naarm / Melbourne, their practice spans live performance, music production, installation and collaborative projects. Dameboy has worked as a dancer and collaborator with a range of Australian contemporary dance companies, and creates original sound for live performance contexts. Their solo music project brings together music, digital art and performance as an evolving world-building practice, with the first release SABINA CAKE launched in 2024. Through Helipad Studio and the annual event NIMBUS, they also support experimental, cross-disciplinary arts practice and community-led platforms. Dameboy - Brain Field was made possible by the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund, provided through Regional Arts Australia, administered in Queensland by Flying Arts Alliance. | The development of Brain Field was supported by Dancenorth Australia through the 4 Walls and a Floor residency program.
