Butterfly Boom

Erin Ricardo
Umbrella

Erin Ricardo, Swallowtale, 2021, Collagraph, pencil and ink on paper, 26 x 26cm.

Each year an artist who works across printmaking undertakes a PressNorth Residency over three months in Umbrella's Makerspace. It is presented in partnership between Umbrella and PressNorth Printmakers. This exhibition presents Erin Ricardo's work that has resulted in the Makerspace so far, approximately half-way through her residency.

Erin is inspired by the light and shapes observed in tropical North Queensland. She is focussing her residency on exploring relief and cyanotype printing techniques. Erin is currently working with layered patterns of flora and repetition of butterfly forms to depict her local environment in its abundant state.
