AIR Archive

Umbrella's Grand Hotel Townsville Artist in Residence (AIR) program began in 2015 in partnership with the Grand Hotel, Townsville. Artists were accommodated at the hotel and created artwork in The Studio. Prior to 2015, Umbrella hosted artists in residence through a number of other programs, some of which were supported by PressNorth Printmakers. Artists included Judy Watson, Peter Lancaster, Trent Walters, GW Bot and Basil Hall. In 2020, Umbrella pivoted the AIR program temporarily to support artists working from home (AHAIR).

The residencies' aim is to bring artists to Townsville, for them to contribute to the open working environment and collaborate with other artists, and to share skills/experience with local artists and the community through delivering a masterclass or workshop. Expressions of interest are usually welcome from artists, curators and arts professionals living in Queensland, interstate or internationally. See here for more information and register for Umbrella's eNews and follow our social media for updates.
