Cultural Mediation Training - Centre of the Centre
Centre of the Centre Cultural Mediation
The sessions will each be broken down into 4 sections:
1. Introduction to cultural mediation practice. This session takes the form of a collaborative knowledge sharing and Q&A session.
This session aims to deepen and build on participants’ understanding of cultural mediation practice through an inquiry-based discussion. Led by UQ Art Museum Mediators, this session is informed by semi-structured questions that encourage participants to consider their own ideas and interpretations of cultural mediation practice. UQ Art Museum Mediators will build on participants’ understanding by sharing their own experiences practicing cultural mediation.
2. Active listening activity
In this practical session, participants will practice active listening skills and using other’s perspectives as a starting point for meaningful conversations about artworks and exhibitions.
3. Mind map activity.
This session aims to get participants to consider and share their own interpretations of and learnings from Centre of the Centre. Together, participants will reflect on what resonates with them and build a mind map of concepts, questions, and ideas found in Centre of the Centre. Participants will be encouraged to use this mind map to inform further research and conversations starters with visitors.
4. Reflection.
The aim of this session is to help participants consider what 'tools’ or ‘supports’ for Mediator’s might use to empower their practice. UQ Art Museum Mediators will draw upon their own experiences and tools in order to help participants consider and reflect upon theirs.
