Join Rikaela Rusch, Umbrella's Marketing and Communications Manager, and Amanda Galea, Umbrella's Business Manager, for a dynamic marketing session designed to boost your online presence.

This comprehensive workshop will focus on effective digital marketing strategies, creating engaging social media content (including videos/reels), and mastering the art of quality photography/videography for content creation.

Rikaela will guide you through the latest trends and techniques for standing out online, offering top tips for social media success tailored specifically for artists. Amanda will then delve into the importance of great photography/videography, providing accessible processes and tips for taking professional-quality images/video of your artworks at home or in the studio. You'll learn how these visuals can significantly improve exhibition applications, art award entries, and your overall online visibility.

Depending on your experience and needs, Rikaela and Amanda will offer one-on-one suggestions to help you achieve your individual goals.

If attending in preparation for an exhibition application at Umbrella, it is recommended to take advantage of the Umbrella member price at this point (as membership is a requirement for applications). All bookings subject to Umbrella's workshop and public programs booking policy. | Bookings close 4:45pm Tuesday 19 August 2025. | Each session is limited to 10 artists and will take place at Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts, 408 Flinders St, Townsville. Please note these sessions are scheduled according to fully booked classes. If less participants attend, the sessions may run slightly shorter than their scheduled finish time. Umbrella staff and guests regularly run Creative Industries professional development sessions for artists, with other upcoming topics including writing texts and applying for exhibitions.

Rikaela Rusch brings a diversity of marketing expertise to Umbrella as Marketing and Communications Manager. From the world of music and art festivals such as Splendour in the Grass and Island Vibe Festival, Rikaela has a proven track record of orchestrating successful marketing and communications strategies for grassroots organisations through to major corporations. Fortified by a dual degree in Advertising and Creative Industries (QUT), Rikaela's journey led her from Meanjin / Brisbane to North Queensland, where she has engaged with a range of initiatives in the arts and cultural sphere. Rikaela is a dedicated champion for her local community, actively contributing her time and energy to various projects and events across the region. Working alongside the likes of Djabuganydji/Western Yalanji singer-songwriter Djawarray, hip-hop group Water Streets, Saibai Island independent artist Moses Warusam, the community-run venue Kuranda Amphitheatre, Papua New Guinean visual artist MerkAbart (Sharmaine Drieberg) and most recently, the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF).

Amanda Galea has been a pivotal force at Umbrella since joining the team in 2020.  With a strong foundation and accreditation in visual arts and business, Amanda has successfully managed various projects and initiatives. Her tenure as Festival Administrator for Pop Up North Queensland (PUNQ) showcased her ability to coordinate complex events. As Arts Administrator (2022), she demonstrated her expertise in supporting artists and cultural programs through curation, marketing, administration and financial management. Beyond her formal roles, Amanda has actively contributed to the arts community through volunteer work and guest judging at prestigious awards. Her passion for photography has been invaluable in capturing the essence of Umbrella's exhibitions and events, ensuring their effective dissemination across all communication channels.
