Avatar Collage Activity
Esther Forest | Free, self-guided

Collage by Esther Forest, 2025. Photograph: Amanda Galea.
Visit Umbrella to participate in a free, self-guided activity designed by exhibiting artist Esther Forest. Collage a memory of your digital space – this could be a profile picture, avatar, video game, landscape or webpage. Use the paper as the pixels to create your image. Draw, tear, cut and stick drawings, newspapers and magazines to make an analogue version of a digital space.
All ages are welcome during Umbrella's open hours. Children must be accompanied by an adult guardian to participate in this activity.
Esther Forest's exhibition littlebunny1111 is on display 9 May - 8 June 2025.
Esther Forest (they/them) is an emerging artist and filmmaker who was born in Gurambilbarra / Townsville, North Queensland, but has been based in Western Australia for the past decade. Forest’s diverse practice combines stop-motion animation, experimental film, handcrafted dioramas, puppetry, mixed media and digital techniques to explore the intersections of the real and imagined. Their unique approach to storytelling and world-building addresses themes of online culture, social interaction, and magical thinking, often with a focus on challenging stereotypes, particularly those related to the schizophrenia spectrum.
