Walk amongst the trees in this pop up forest, crafted in large-scale performative drawing sessions by artists Michael Pope and Gerald Soworka. Leaf and Line reimagines Townsville's iconic fig trees as artworks twisting and growing around the walls, reflecting their inhabitance of Townsville's public spaces.

Join the artists 5-7pm Saturday 31 July, Tuesday 3 - Saturday 7 August; and 9am- 12pm Sunday 1 and Sunday 8 August 2021 for free drop-in viewings.

About the Artist

Michael Pope is a multidisciplinary artist and teacher based in North Queensland. Gerald Soworka is a visual artist who specialises in drawing and is committed to fostering observational drawing in the general populous. Together, they are involved in various facets of Townsville’s drawing scene including Life Drawing Townsville, Urban Sketchers Townsville and Murky Waters Studio.

Everyone Can Draw - Gerald Soworka

Explore drawing concepts and techniques with a focus on trees in this two-hour workshop. Participants will be guided by Leaf and Line's Gerald Soworka, who has extensive experience facilitating and teaching drawing sessions. All materials will be provided.

Botanical Books - Michael Pope
$65 per person | 2hrs | 10 participants | 15+
5:30-7:30pm Friday 6 August 2021
Draw inspiration from natural materials including seedpods and bark in this still-life drawing workshop. Participants will use pens, ink and paper to craft a concertina book drawing that responds to things found on the forest floor. All materials will be provided.

  • Quiet spaces available for participants, this location will have ambient or no music playing.

  • Venues have been strategically designed for clear pathways throughout with a focus on minimising clutter.
  • If participating in workshops, interactions, or artist talks at a pop up there will be an array of seating options provided.
