Fortified

Susie Losch

Fortified is a site-specific installation responding to and activating the space within the former Virgils Antiques building, originally constructed as a furniture manufacturing warehouse in early colonial Gurambilbarra / Townsville. Working in collaboration and alongside artists, technicians and the local creative community experimentation with movement, light and sound may develop into an entirely new collaborative work, reinforcing the value of site-specific practice as a space for experimentation, exchange and artistic growth.

PUNQ respectfully acknowledges the Wulgurukaba of Gurambilbarra and Yunbenun and the surrounding groups of our region; Bindal, Gugu Badhun, Nywaigi, Warrgamay, Bandjin and Gudjal as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we gather, share and celebrate local creative practice. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders as the first people of Australia. They have never ceded sovereignty and remain strong in their enduring connection to land and Culture.
