The Squeaking Tribe is a touring exhibition of marionettes and interactive effigies. Established in 1996, the Tribe meticulously creates by hand hundreds of individual, fully-functioning marionette puppets for performance, play and aesthetic display. Every marionette they make is an original piece of art which can also be used to act out stories, entertain an audience or educate children as a teacher’s aid. For PUNQ Festival, the public can not only admire and perhaps purchase a hand-made marionette, but also try their own hand at a rare aspect of performance art not usually made available. The Tribe will publicly demonstrate the basic principles behind marionette manipulation and teach some of the fundamentals of puppetry through interactive exercises, games and impromptu performances .
