Šejma Prodanović

Matine

My financial position as an artist in Serbia is insecure.  I was thinking about the ways to save money and do my art.  I started collecting old papers, catalogues, cardboards, packaging, plastic packing, …all free, so my collages became ‘Recyclocollages’.  Pieces of printed photo and shaped coloured parts of paper are applied on cardboard with interventions in drawing and acrylics, then, works are scanned on computer and digitally remastered.  Work shows construction of life spaces in contemporary society.  The subject is private, everyday life, “unstable harmony” of home, a family member, everyday practice.  I analyse communication and relationships made through everyday routine, like drinking coffee, having lunch or shopping for shoes.  Life is represented as a mixture of humour, silence and loneliness.
