My art is all about the inside world, the mystical realm of dreams, hopes and fears. Although I have often claimed to be ruled by my rational mind, it is the subconscious and irrational that really governs me – and thus it shapes my life. By creating my images, I manage to express this vital and important side of myself and in doing so, I find that my existence somehow makes sense. My work can be described as naïve, symbolic and slightly unsettling. I have an innate love for texture and patterns of all kinds, and I am interested in the contrast between the rough and organic (irrational) and the severe and controlled (rational) as it mirrors the most basic human conflict – heart versus head.
