Laurel Mckenzie

Frieze

‘Frieze’ records part of the rich relief carving of a lintel and pediment from Bantey Srei, a 10th century Khmer temple. This detail is said to depict a story from the Ramayana called ‘Fire in the Khandava forest’. It is a scene of chaos, in a precisely ordered composition.
