Throughout history, the use of the mirror in art has had a number of symbolic functions, both positive & negative, representing both the virtue of Prudence & the vice of Vanity. Mirrors can create false, deformed images of our likeness, yet they can also be used to help us get a grasp on reality – allowing us to see ourselves as others see us.
