Iain Turnbull

Figure Fragment (1)

Currently in the 2nd year of a B.V.A (majoring in printmaking) at the QCA, Brisbane. I have worked in most printmaking media, with a particular focus on Intaglio techniques. Much of my other work is done on paper using various drawing media (especially Gouache and Inks). While I use the landscape, natural forms and the human figure as sources of inspiration, my preference is to work from the blank paper, without preliminary studies, allowing the image to emerge through the working process. This way of working lends itself to mark making and imagery which is suggestive of reality, rather than attempting to define it. Figure Fragment is a variation on a larger work, derived from rapid figure sketches and small works done in gouache and ink. Part of this larger Sugar-Lift Aquatint was first printed in black then another part of the plate was printed over this in brown to complete the image.
