My name is Edmund Laza and I’m from Badu Island. My piece is based on a headress found in wild potato brushes. I’m currently working at the Badu Island Art Centre which was recently opened in April 2010. I’m doing this from the inspiration of my forefathers and their fathers before them and the culture that is passed down generation after generation. My work concerns symbols which arrest my attention upon the beauty around to create a secular foundation to hold sacred my visual art and knowledge, shedding new light on familiar objects and events, simple totems if you will, lurking in my psyche.
