Anneke Silver

Into The Circle

This print alludes to visible and invisible cycles of existence. It consists of two layers. The lower layer symbolises the invisible phase of existence, with gold and an image of the ancient Goddess, luminous and basically unknown. Over the top this is a tissue overlay of the moment of birth when the crown of the head appears, making its entry into the circle of the perceived world and the cycle of visible existence. The lower layer is made of traditional Chinese gold leafed votive paper with a stamped image. The print on the tissue overlay is digital, resembling a woodcut in many ways, but the digital process allowed the opening up and subsequent lightening of the lines.
